How to choose a Lineage 2 server: a step-by-step guide

Chronicles, rates, server type, population and signs of a short-lived project — what to check so you don't waste time on a server that closes in a week.

Dozens of Lineage 2 servers open every month, and most look alike at first glance. To avoid spending evenings leveling on a server that disappears in a week, answer five questions first.

1. Which chronicles do you prefer

A chronicle is the game version. C4 and Interlude are the classics with simple, clear mechanics — most players play them. Gracia, Freya and High Five add new zones and third professions and have more complex balance. Classic and Essence are modern official branches with simplified leveling.

If you are coming back after a long break, start with the chronicles you played before — you will remember the mechanics faster.

2. How fast do you want to play

The rate shows how many times faster than on the official server you gain experience. At x1–x10 leveling takes months, but every level matters and the economy is alive. At x50–x100 a character reaches the cap in a couple of weeks. At x1000 and higher there is almost no leveling — it is PvP right away.

3. What interests you: PvP, PvE or economy

PvP servers revolve around sieges, Olympiad and clan wars. PvE servers focus on leveling, raids and bosses. Craft servers suit those who love trading, crafting and the market. The type is shown on every listing.

4. When to start

The best time to join is opening day or the open beta before it: everyone starts from zero and the population is at its peak. If a server has been running for a month, you will be catching up with those who came earlier.

Add the opening to your calendar with the “Add to calendar” button on the server page — your calendar will remind you an hour before the start.

5. Is it a short-lived project

Before you start, check the server's trust index and whether its owner has closed projects. The signs of short-lived servers are covered in a separate article.
